Liquid-nitrogen dewars

Know where every vial is before you open the dewar.

Liquid Nitrogen Cell Storage covers the vials in your dewars: the canes, boxes and positions, the cell types and passages, where each culture came from, and every liquid-nitrogen fill. It is part of the same free, offline app as Cold Storage.

The sample lab has two dewars of fictional vials, a fill coming due, and a box check with one vial still unaccounted for.

One app, two storage sides

Built around the vial and the dewar.

A vial taken from liquid nitrogen usually leaves for good, so this side records why it left and where its cells came from. Cold Storage, for items that go to the bench and come back, has its own screens beside it, and the app opens on a Home that shows both.

01

A layout that matches the dewar

Set up each dewar to match the real one: its canes, the boxes on each cane and the grid inside a box, with rows and columns as letters or numbers. Up to 40 canes per dewar, 40 boxes per cane and 26 by 26 positions per box. Each of several dewars keeps its own size and fill schedule.

02

Store one vial or a batch

Answer where the cells came from first, enter the shared details once, and let the positions advance in order. A batch can be scanned barcode by barcode, or recorded as vials with no barcodes at all.

03

Find it before the lid opens

Search by cell line and passage, barcode, donor code or one of your own fields, then follow the dewar, cane, box and position. A pick list orders several vials by where they sit, so one trip collects them all.

04

Remove, hold or correct

Record why a vial left: thawed for use, discarded, transferred or shipped, removed temporarily, or another reason. Put a vial on hold with a reason instead of removing it. A vial removed without scanning stays on Confirm removals until its barcode is scanned or typed, or you record why it cannot be scanned.

05

Check a box

Check a box position by position. A vial that is not found stays listed as unaccounted for until it is found or written off as lost, and Recently removed lets you put back a vial removed by mistake.

06

Cell lineage

Record where each vial’s cells came from: a parent vial, new to the lab, or not recorded. Trace any vial to its ancestors, every vial from the same parent and all its descendants, with how many are still in storage.

07

Fills and low stock

Record each liquid-nitrogen fill, and set a fill schedule for the lab or for one dewar. The dashboard warns when the next fill is due, and a low-stock threshold can be set for each cell type.

08

Spreadsheets in, reports out

Start a new lab from a spreadsheet, or import vials into a running one, with every row shown before anything is written. A Tank column names the dewar, and an optional Parent barcode column rebuilds lineage. Reports include an inventory snapshot, one vial’s full history and the liquid nitrogen log, each a PDF and a CSV with the same report ID.

09

Activity and backups

Activity lists every store, move, removal, check and fill, with who recorded it and when. One backup holds the whole lab, and a restore can replace all of it, the liquid-nitrogen cells only, or Cold Storage only.

What it does not claim

Practical inventory, with its limits said plainly.

Liquid Nitrogen Cell Storage holds the records your lab enters. It does not measure dewar levels or temperatures, order liquid nitrogen, or follow a culture beyond its vials.

  • No cloud synchronization or shared database
  • No level-sensor, temperature-probe or alarm integration
  • Lineage records one parent for each vial
  • No clinical, diagnostic, GLP, GMP, ISO, FDA or Part 11 claim
  • Reports support the lab’s own review and do not certify compliance

Both sides, free

Cells in liquid nitrogen and everything else your lab keeps cold.

CryoIndex includes several dewars, cell lineage, box and cabinet checks, five reports, CSV import and checked backups, with nothing to buy.
