Android
An Android tablet running Android 7.0 or later in landscape. Portrait and phone-sized layouts are not supported. CryoIndex is not currently available for iPad.
System requirements
Know what the device and storage system need.
Choose either a landscape Android tablet or a Windows PC as the lab’s working inventory. Camera scanning is available only on Android; hardware scanners and manual entry work on both. Both releases are still in pre-release preparation.
Windows
A 64-bit Windows PC with a working area of at least 960×600. The desktop window opens at 1280×800 by default and can be resized.
One working record
Choose one Android tablet or Windows PC as the lab’s active system of record. CryoIndex does not live-sync, reconcile, or merge changes made on separate installations.
Network and account
Core inventory work needs neither an internet connection nor a CryoIndex account. Internet access may still be needed to obtain the app and its updates.
Camera
Optional and Android-only. Windows keeps manual barcode entry and compatible hardware-scanner input but does not offer camera scanning.
Hardware scanner
Optional on both platforms. Use a USB or Bluetooth HID/keyboard-wedge scanner that can send the printed value literally and finish with Enter.
Storage model
The current release models one liquid-nitrogen dewar arranged as canes, boxes and grid positions. Each box can have lettered or numbered axes.
Capacity
Up to 40 canes per dewar, 40 boxes per cane and a 26×26 grid per box.
Backups
The lab needs an approved destination outside the working device—such as removable media or institutional storage—for protection against loss or device failure. A cross-platform restore replaces the destination database; it does not merge two inventories.
