Cell lineage
Why does it insist on asking where a vial came from?
Origin is required because it is the one part of a vial’s history nobody can reconstruct later. A position can be checked against the dewar and a barcode against the label, but no test on a frozen vial identifies the exact parent vial.
- Choose Another vial when these cells were frozen down from a vial already recorded in CryoIndex. The parent picker searches current and removed records.
- Choose New to the lab for purchased stock, a gift from another lab, or a primary isolation. Use Source to record where it came from when that information is known.
- Choose Not recorded only when the lab genuinely does not know the answer. CryoIndex keeps that uncertainty explicit instead of guessing.
- If the parent was differentiated, transduced, immortalised, or subcloned into a different line, choose the parent and select Differentiated or modified into a different line.
- For one-vial storage, answer Origin again after every save. In batch storage, one answer applies to the whole batch.
